If I could figure out how I got into this screen, I'd have my friend contact you personally, Leslie Haney Tippetts. [email protected]

Her mother Betty Jane Fleming 2 April 1933 – 15 April 2019  •  LF3N-W4K has been deceased for 2 years. Family has not completed her temple workdue to the temples closed for covid. Last week Leslie received notification that the sealing of her parents had been completed in the Logan Temple!

How can this be? Leslie is the only member in her family. No one asked for her permission. Who did this?

Thank you,

Irene Jeppsen Ward Consultant

We are so sorry that has happened. When we look at Betty Jane Fleming 2 April 1933 – 15 April 2019 LF3N-W4K, we see that the only ordinance completed is the sealing to her first husband.

Since the temple ordinance work was done after 1970, the temple does not keep a record of who reserved the family names nor who completed the ordinance, only that the ordinance was completed. In Family Tree, you can see the date and temple where ordinances were completed. No other information is recorded regarding ordinances.

When looking at the details for Betty Fleming, there are no children listed for either of the two husbands. Her daughter should make sure that she is linked to her mother. Everything else has been reserved by her daughter except for sealing to second husband. She should reserve that sealing also.

One explanation of why the sealing to spouse ordinance was done is that the person completing the ordinance was related to Lavern Edward Haney LLMZ-TX6.

Thank you for this information. Another question I had is since someone else performed the sealing, why/how was I notified in family search? It came to me in my notifications that ordinances were performed.

    Dear LTippetts,

Thank you for your question. You may have received the notification, about the sealing, because you have reserved ordinances for the same individual. There may have been a duplicate record, that was reserved by another person, and then the records were merged. The link below may be useful.

We hope this explanation has been helpful.

    Hi again,

We received the following message from another missionary about your question on temple work done without permission.

"You reserved the Sealing to Spouse ordinance and shared it with the Temple system. Then another user reserved the SS and completed the work on 7/7/21.  You were notified because you had the Ordinance reserved and shared with the Temple. "

We are attaching the link to the article that deals with this situation, in case it will be useful.

If it was shared, it was a blind share. With ordinances supposed to be done in order, there is no reason why the SS would be shared before the baptism of Betty.
