Please pre-populate information that is contained in the collection title
I would like to request that FS pre-populate place and date for city directories and then lock those fields for editing prior to having them indexed. I have reviewed thousands of these and had to remove or correct these fields far too many times.
I'm sure there are many other collections that this would apply to also.
Thanks for considering!
If this is feasible, I support this, and have voted for it. Many of us have presumed/hoped that this information had to be “known” and that this step would “surely” be done in a post-processing/pre-publication step. But it makes so much sense to do it up front and avoid the time-wasting Indexing and Reviewing problems that Sheryl refers to. If you agree, please also vote for this.1
The requested feature would not be safe. Too many collections have content that does not match the title.0
Good point, but I wouldn’t want nor expect that the Project Managers would simply use the title to populate those fields. I’d expect them to use their access to the full volume and other contextual info they have that we don’t to “smartly” fill in those fields, if possible.0
What would be a smart and safe auto-fill is this: On census records, when a contributor using the linker page explicitly standardizes the place name once, the linker follows suit on all other persons in the household.0
