It sure would be nice if links in a disucssion could be set to open in a new tab.

I am not particularly "computer savvy", so am I being silly in asking why programmers / developers don't automatically adopt this as standard? On practically every website I use I have to guess whether a link will open in a new tab or not. I have a bad habit on not automatically using the right-click on the mouse, regardless, but in some cases this proves to be totally unnecessary. On other occasions, I lose the page I was on and have to click on the "Back" arrow to get back to where I was. Please at least let there be consistency - preferably in line with N Tychonievich's suggestion.
