"Over 100,000 historic prisoner-register records have been added to Scotland's Criminal Database, a free resource located at www.scottishindexes.com/ScotlandsCriminalDatabase.aspx. The database, which now holds more than 280,000 court and prisoner records, has been compiled by the family history business Scottish Indexes. The records cover prisons in Aberdeen, Ayr, Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Greenock, Hamilton, Kirkcudbright, Lanark, Maxwelltown, Paisley, Perth, Stirling, Stranraer and Wigtown. The indexed records typically reveal each prisoner's name, age, occupation, and date and place of birth, plus the year they were jailed. Scottish Indexes will look up and transcribe the original record at the National Records of Scotland for a £5 fee."
