I have sucessfully taken two children from a family tree they don't belong to and added them to my family tree where they do belong. The ordinances came with them, which is fine, but they have been sealed to the wrong parents. Is there anyway of cancelling that?

    Hello Sister Morley

If a person was sealed to the wrong parents, you can often resolve the issue in Family Tree. As needed, redo the ordinances. You can usually resolve these issues without contacting FamilySearch Support.

Before you start, it can be helpful to redo the sealing-to-parent ordinance if it matches these circumstances:

    • The ordinance was done before 1 July 1969, and either the father or mother is wrong.
    • The ordinance was done after 1 July 1969, and the father is wrong. If only the mother's name is wrong, you do not need to redo the ordinance. The word "mother" in the temple ordinance makes the ordinance valid even if the wrong mother's name was given.

    Steps

Each of these steps could be considered its own process. For more detailed instructions on how to complete each of them, view the articles linked at the bottom.

    1. Add the correct parents to Family Tree if they are not already there.
    2. Remove the incorrect parents from the family. (You can remove incorrect parents even when a sealing-to-parent ordinance has been done.)
    3. Request and perform needed ordinances for any new people that you added to the family.
    4. If the sealing-to-parents ordinance needs to be redone, request it.

    Janet

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

Further more; and, on top of, the extensive information already proffered by 'AmericanLady1953' ...

Short Answer: 'Yes', you can REQUEST that the INAPPROPRIATE "Temple" ORDINANCE of "Sealing to Parents" to be CANCELLED (and, "Removed" from the "System").

Reason being that, any EARLIER "Temple" Work, although, which may be inappropriate, WILL be that which is, both, RECORDED; and, DISPLAYED, unless, such are REQUESTED to be CANCELLED (and, "Removed" from the "System").

You must do such through a "Support" Case in 'FamilySearch'.

Just so that you are aware.

Thank you. I have been contacted by a Family Search missionary who is going to make the necessary changes. Thanks for those that have answered the query.

We have invalidated the Sealing to Parents ordinances for Thomas and Edward Cleaver.

The Sealing to Parent ordinances are now available to be requested.

Thank you for taking the time to ensure our records are correct.

    All the best
