A Chinese friend, who lives in Provo, Utah, has lost 400 names.

How can she reserve some of these names again for temple work? She use to attend the temple every week. She and her husband were in the Provo Temple yesterday. I am a ward consultant. She is very upset because she knows it will be many years before most of these names will be done.

OK - First off, being shared with the temple is like putting your names in the bank. They are still your reservation but now you can have the rest of the church help if you want. OR if you want to do a specific shared name you go to the "bank" and unshare it (there is that option at the top of the list after you click on the box in front of the shared reservation.) That allows to then print the names and do them. This is really a great way to have things work as it allows you to still "own" the reservations but let the church as a whole help you. Just be sure to pull names you absolutely want to do yourself before they get taken by others.

There is that 2 year clock on how long you have to complete ordinances you reserve and don't share. Since the temples have been closed down that clock has not been running and your reservations have been extended. Here is an example in my list: Reserved: 24 October 2020 and Expires: 23 June 2023. It should expire on 23 Oct 2022 but each day they freeze the clock they add a day - that is why I have until 23 Jun 2023. When was the ordinance that expires in Sept 2021 reserved? You can just share it with the temple if you don't get it done before the expiration and then remove it from the Shared pool and print it when you are ready to take it to the temple.

    Hope this helps.

Please explain a little more. Are the names no longer reserved or were they moved to Shared with the Temple status?

If they were totally gone and she had nothing in her temple file at all then most likely FamilySearch was doing so updating and had closed the temple file program for a while. It should be back today.

Thank you, this is very helpful. I have texted her your answers. If names are moved to "Shared with the Temple status, can we "reserve" them again? I have a name that will "expire" in September of 2021. That's coming up quick. I use to serve in the Provo Temple, but after being released was attending twice a week. My husband is back to serving twice as week. He is trilled! Because we haven't been able to attend the temple for over a year, surely FamilySearch will give us more time to complete our reserved names. My friend is going to call and talk to someone. She just texted that this has been happening for the past couple of years. As a temple worker, I would see her in the temple--that's how we became friends--even though we live in the same ward. Her husband is in the bishopric and teaches at BYU.
