My ancestors are from Europe. Where can I find what resources are available for a specific country?

I am just starting out on my Family History and my family are from Belgium and the Netherlands. Where can I find the resources to get me started on my Belgian research?

Welcome to FamiliySearch! How exciting to be starting your family tree.

There are some great resources on the website to help you get started. We have a research Wiki that allows you to simply click on a world map, the country you want information on. It has some wonderful resources for getting started and also tells you what's available for that particular country. Here is the link:

    https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Main_Page

I have included below, a link to explain how to find our Wiki page and how best to use it.

How do I search the FamilySearch Wiki?

There are also some research groups specific to certain areas, one of which is Belgium. You will find groups in the Community section in the left hand side menu. Once in the groups section, you can search by keyword in the small search bar or simply scroll through to see what may be of use for you to request to join.

As you mentioned you were just starting out, you may find it useful to visit our Help Centre by clicking on the question mark at the top right hand corner of the FamilySearch page. At the bottom there's a Getting Started link and also in the Search by Topic area, if you click View All, you can discover our online courses,

    Good luck!

I would look in the Research Wiki for Belgium Genealogy

    https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Belgium_Genealogy

    for starters.

Also look at FamilySearch Community and search for Q&A on Belgium and join a group.

Another website is the State Archives of Belgium

    http://www.arch.be/index.php?l=en&m=genealogist

There is enough for you to get started

You may find other helpful items, by going to the Groups section, and putting Belgium in the search box at the top. We found the following subjects listed after searching:

    Place names in Belgium

Re: looking for maps-Belgium and the Netherlands.

Re: Should l search records from Belgium or the Netherlands.

    Re: Civil Records, Belgium.

We wish you success in your search efforts.

On any Family Search Page click on Search. On the page you come to, on the right side will be a map. Click on Europe then choose the country, such as Belgium:

This will bring you to this page for Belgium: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927071?region=Belgium
