I have come across documents entitled "Naturalization Petitions Recommended to be Denied" and "Naturalization Petitions Recommended to be Granted." Each of the documents has 2 - 4 individual "petitioners." This is from batch "US, Kansas - Naturalization Records, 1856-1991 [Part A] [M3QP-KJ4] What do I do with these? Anything? Thank you for your help.

Hi Graham. I've been indexing Naturalization records for the last few years. These are those unusual forms that sometimes show up in these collections. You have done a pretty good job indexing them. Just one thing, we can't use a name to determine gender, so none of these would have a gender indexed. On Images 3 and 4, the beneficiaries are children for whom naturalization is being sought. You would only index the five children's names. Hope that helps!

Yes, you would add additional entries as needed. These lists of petitions to be denied or to be granted can have an entire page of names or just a few.

    Hi Graham

Good question. Judging from the project instructions, it would seem that they should be indexed. I would say that they are similar to the 5 main types, and not specifically excluded.

    • Index the following 5 types of naturalization documents: certificates of naturalization, declarations of intention, petitions for naturalization, oaths of allegiance, and naturalization cards. Any documents that are similar to these 5 and that are not listed below as an image to not index, should also be indexed. If a document does not have a title or heading, look at other information on the document to determine the document type.
    • Do not index name change records, certificates of loyalty, certificates of arrival, affidavits of witnesses, or depositions.

    Regards

    Norm

Okay. But I'm still confused in that each form has numerous "petitioners" on each form. Should I add additional forms for each name. Also, the only information I can find is the petitioner name, a date of when the form was submitted and in what district the action occured.
