Why have people been added to my family who aren't my family.

I've got a person added to my tree that I can't delete as it won't let me, this person is not a member of my family and I know this for certain as I have a large amount of documentation from my Grandfather and from my own research before the Internet began from records offices. I want to remove this person why has delete been disabled just because there are sources. I think that I should have complete control of who goes on my own family tree. After 45+ years of research I have a pretty good knowledge of whose who in my family. Any way of removing this incorrect information.

In FamilyTree the object is to make a world tre so no part of the tree belongs to any one person.

To remove an incorrect relationship you do not need to delete the person You use the edit icon

    Steps (website)

Here are the steps for removing or replacing a child in a family using Family Tree on the FamilySearch.org website:

    1. While signed in to FamilySearch.org, click Family Tree.
    2. Navigate to the person page of the child with the incorrect parents.
    3. If the Details section is not open, click the Details tab.
    4. Scroll to the Family Members section.
    5. Under Parents and Siblings, find the child's name, and click the Edit icon .
    6. If only one parent is incorrect, click Remove or Replace next to the incorrect parent. If both are incorrect, click Remove or Replace next to the child.
    7. A Remove or Replace box appears. Verify relationships, sources, and notes, then click the check box.
    8. Do one of the following:
      1. To remove a parent or parents, click the appropriate Remove button. Explain why, and then click Remove.
      2. To replace a parent or parents, click the appropriate Replace button. The Replace Person screen appears.
        • If you know a parent's ID number, click Find by ID Number, enter the ID number, and then click Find. Click Add Person. Explain your reason for the change, and then click Replace.
        • If you do not know a parent's ID number, complete the search fields, and then click Next. If the correct person or couple appears in the list, click Add Person. Otherwise, click Create New to create a parent record. Explain your reason for the change, and then click Replace.

    @Chrisgme62

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...

    I am just another User/Patron ...

As 'WPBA' has already been proffered ...

    FYI

    Just my take ...

    Firstly ...

Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.

    Please let me explain ...

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    And ...

    MOST Importantly ...

We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, OUR Own "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) the "Deatils" for ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Secondly ...

We CANNOT "Delete" an individual/person from "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; EXCEPT, with the proviso that You, BOTH, "Created" that individual/person; and, NO Other User/Patron has had ANY other input to that individuals/persons details.

    And ...

As has already been suggested, the ONLY real option available to you is to "Remove" the Family (either, "Parent-Child"; or "Couple") "Relationship" with the INCORRECT individual/person to Your "Ancestral" Lines.

    Now ...

    That said ...

Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'Family Search', that may help:
