Misleading Email
Although I don't recall ever signing up for this account I probably did because I am amateurishly and halfheartedly researching my genealogy and my family history, however no known relatives are Mormon, I come from a long line of Irish Catholics and Dutch Protestants.
I got this email saying a relative signed up for the draft during WW1 and I could view the draft card by clicking on the link.
I clicked and got a message saying draft registration for my family tree couldn't be found but that I could make my own discoveries.
This is just plain wrong of you people to spam unsuspecting folks trying to find TRUE documents and information about our heritage. It's actually lying, a classic bait and switch which in some instances is not only unethical and morally bankrupt but outright criminal.
Shame on you!

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
SECONDLY ...
The Church (ie. in this case, 'FamilySearch') DOES NOT send out SPAM "E-mails".
THIRDLY ...
IF, you received such an "E-mail", from 'FamilySearch'; THEN, at SOME stage (in the past), you MUST have REGISTERED; and, therefore, have a 'FamilySearch' Account; as, a 'bona fide' User/Patron of 'FamilySearch'.
Otherwise, you would NOT have RECIVED such an "E-mail", from 'FamilySearch'.

FOURTHLY ...
In our "Settings" in 'FamilySearch', we have the OPTION to NOT receive such "E-mails", from 'FamilySearch', if one so desires.
IF, you go to your "Settings" in 'FamilySearch'; and, then go to the "Notifications" 'Tab'; THEN, there, you can DISABLE, whatever "E-mail" Messages, that you DO NOT desire.
It is that simple.

Such "E-mails" from 'FamilySearch' as SIMPLY sent out to HELP the many Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch'; particularly, those Users/Patrons that HAVE used the "Family Tree" Part of 'FamilySearch'.
'FamilySearch' DOES NOT receive any monetary Benefit or remuneration from such "E-mails".
Such "E-mails" from 'FamilySearch', are simply POSSIBLE "Hints" of "Records", that MAY pertain, to one of your Ancestors.
Nothing more, nothing less ...
And, MOST Importantly, they are ONLY Possible "Hints", it DOES NOT mean that they ARE a "Match", just MAYBE ...
IF, they are NOT a "Match"; THEN, they can simply be "Dismissed".
Sometimes, they are a "Match" ...
Whereas, sometimes, they are NOT a "Match" ...
'Such is Life' ...

IF, you DO NOT desire ANY 'E-mail" NOTIFICATIONS about Your "Ancestors" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; THEN. simply, go to the "Notifications" 'Tab', in your "Settings"; and, DISABLE the NOTIFICATIONS you do not desire (eg. that can be ALL, if you wish).

MANY Users/Patrons have so DISABLED such NOTIFICATIONS; as, they DO NOT desire such HELP (eg. "Hints")

Thank you Brett for your florid response! I wish it were more helpful considering how multi facetted.
As I stated in my query/complaint, I don't discount the probability of initiating correspondence by digging around for information about my lineage. I'm on a multitude of such sites and have done DNA testing with a few of the ancestry type people which has brought me an influx of spam and even junk snail mail. So I am accustomed to the solicitous nature of them, as well as how to update my preferences and/or unsubscribe from all correspondence. Naturally I made those changes to my account here. But again, thanks for the tutorial. The particular email I am miffed about does not give any disclaimer noting the fact that this is just a possibility or a bridge to other accurate information. I haven't done much research in the past year, almost two years, due to, well, life, you know how it can get, and because I thought I had already weeded out any inaccurate and unnecessary communications, so this particular email with it's non asterisked claim had me excited and curious and hopeful. But it was no more than a line cast far and wide and in no way relevant or relative to my family and it's history.
My dad, Raymond R. Furnish served proudly and with honor as a combat paratrooper with the 173rd in Vietnam and as a medic with the 475th in Desert Storm and the Gulf War. His father, Raymond Furnish as an airplane mechanic in WWII. The prospect of an unknown (to me) WWI veteran added to that list meant something to me.
I basically knew everything you so eloquently mansplained to me, Brett. But thanks for your valuable time and considerate response.

Of late, I have been 'miffed', with some of the "Campaigns", from 'FamilySearch', to engender engagement in doing one's Genealogy / Family History, presenting me with things to "Check-Out", that may be of interest; but, disappointingly, I ALREADY knew MOST (if not ALL) of what was being presented; as, I was the one who "Attached" ALL the "Sources" and relevant "Details", in the first place.
I have requested, that the "Campaigns", be more selective and 'Tweaked'; so that, the "E-mails" are NOT actually "Sent Out" to the User(s)/Patron(s) who "Attached" ALL the "Sources" and relevant "Details".
But, that is going to take some time; as, a lot more "Programming", for that "Selectivity", will be required.
I just wanted to make sure that you were aware that:
(1) those "E-mails" are NOT "Spam"; and,
(2) they are ONLY Possible "Hints", that CAN be "Dismissed".
