I am having trouble indexing a record. Is the birth county after "something" St. Father's Davis', or "St. Father's House"? And if all the births are happening at St. Father's house how are the cities changing. Any clarity would be helpful. I am half-way through the 40 name birth record. I recognize reading hand-writing can be difficult. I am hoping a second opionion would be helpful. And maybe this will help me do birth records in the future.

    Hi Zachary.

The births are a location "At Father's house" or Mother's house (probably the dwelling of the child's mother and father). In other words, home births.

You seem to be doing pretty well on the birth city places. I see Prices Fork (not Prairie Fork) , Toms Creek, Blacksburg, Indian Run, Dry Run, and Roanoke.

The birth county is blank because the field help tells us: Do not index the county listed in the header of the register.

The Father's Residence: 1 is simply Blacksburg because you don't index "near". The next writing is Va for the birth state of Virginia.

    #2 is Prices Fork.

#5 is Roanoke (we don't index directional information unless is part of the name. For instance there really is an East Lansing Michigan and a Lansing Michigan. But, there is not a North Roanoke.

The surname on 8 is Heavener

I think the father in 9 is ZM

The Mother's surname on 10 is Long, not Tony.

There are no Free or Slave columns, so that column needs to be <blank>

Hope that helps. Ask more questions, if you need further assistance!

Oh. This helps a lot! I thought the births were happening at a catholic "Father's" house. Now I understand it is home births. Also, the other information is helpful, too!
