    Hi Bonnie,

The FamilySearch Research Wiki has a wonderful page entitled “California Newspapers.” It is a great starting place that outlines some of the resources available.  It also contains links to newspaper databases both free and for subscription.

What an awful tragedy for your family, I am so sorry. I hope these resources will help you find the article you are looking for.

I've spent some time looking in Newspapers.com and Newspaperarchive.com for any news articles for Maude Marie (Knight) Paone and could not find anything. I also tried expanding the searches to both her maiden name and her married names for a longer span of years for possible court proceedings.

After looking her up in FamilySearch, I can see her only her birth and death years and not the full dates as shown in the sources. FamilySearch will do a more complete search of its historical records when the full dates are shown rather than just the year. If it were me, I'd fill out the most complete information possible including the name of her ex-spouse. FamilySearch can then search using both her maiden and married names. Another alternative if you don't want to add her ex-husband's name: go to Other Information below her Vitals information box, click Add Information and go to Alternate Name. Add Maude Marie Paone as her married name. It helps FamilySearch in their automated Research Help (upper right corner) to add any records they have using her married name.

Even if nothing shows up now, FamilySearch is continually adding to its historical records and I'd suggest coming back periodically to see if any additional hints might show up through its obituary collections or other records.

Hope this helps. So sorry for your loss. Good luck searching!

I have learned that when the family went to claim her, her husband had her under the last name Bucci. Not sure if that is a family name on his side of the family or not. Did also hear her two sons John and Ken went on to live with their fathers side of the family. I'm looking for them as I feel they hold the answers I seek. Not to mention they are my nephews and I would like to know they are well and happy.
