FamilySearch Blog: New Library Lookup Service
The Family History Library (FHL) in Salt Lake City, Utah, has long been a go-to place to find genealogical research materials and is the flagship library for FamilySearch International. With the closure of the library a year ago due to the COVID 19 pandemic, people have had to rely largely on online materials, unable to access records that are only viewable at the Family History Library or other locations. A new Library Lookup Service will soon provide greater access to these records globally.

In respect of limited access digitised microfilms, if you look at the online form https://form.jotform.com/201775133001037 you are required to complete, one of the fields required is the image number.
What happens if the FamilySearch index record does not advise an image number? For instance all the India Index records do not provide an image number. An example https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGWY-ZN5
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of digitised microfilms in the India series of Births, Marriages and Deaths. If an image number is definitely required, and I suspect it would be, as it would take time to look through a film, I think it is wrong to advise people to use this service as I saw in a Group post recently, https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/20369/transcribe-extract-marriage-record-image-from-india . I do not belong to this Group, otherwise I would have commented on the post.
Perhaps there are many more indexed records (not India ) where the image number is not specified.
Also I seem to recall that I saw either another Blog, or a Community post which said the Library Look up service did not apply for books on the FamilySearch Digital Library which were not viewable online due to Copyright restrictions. I cannot now find this reference, but is that the situation?
Any restrictions to the LookUp Service should be made clear so that people's hopes are not incorrectly raised.
