When indexing birth records and the individual is a slave, the owner is listed at the end of the entry. However, under the fathers occupation is listed, among others careers, Laborer, Mechanic, Physician, etc. So is the Occupation that of the Owner or that of the Father of the Slave??

It shouldn't matter when the child is a slave since the instructions are to not index the occupation, residence, etc.

    • When the columns Free or Slave appear on the image and a slave owner's name is indexed, do not index the father's occupation, residence city, or residence county. Mark these fields blank, and index only the Slave Owner's name fields.

If that doesn't help, please share your batch to get a better answer. To share a batch, click on the third icon from the right and follow the instructions or copy and paste the URL or project title with the batch code.
