When one is making name corrections to a census record is there a way of correcting the surnames of the whole family instead of having to do one at a time.

I would not support this change. Some names are spelled differently and each variation correct. I would not like my ancestors Connelley to be changed to Connelly or any other variation because they got scooped up in a perceived family grouping.

And more to your point, it is very cumbersome to correct spellings when they are, in fact, incorrect. It is much easier in Ancestry. I would change your suggestion to making the correction process more efficient.

In genealogy the ancestors name is often spelt many different ways. Including the different name spellings in alternate names may be a good way of dealing with this issue.
