How can I donate my own index project to FamilySearch?

As I have been working on my family line in the Czech Republic, I have been keeping a spreadsheet of every person with the surname of Wurst in Dolni Cermna. Is there a way that I can donate it to FamilySearch?

The quick answer is no, you cannot. There are many reasons why FamilySearch can't accept personal indexing projects. There are many legalities involved with publishing an index and images. For instance, the information might be copyrighted or the archives that holds the information doesn't have a contract with FamilySearch.

There is a group in the Community for Czech Republic Research: https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/34-czechia-czech-republic-research

You might want to join that group and post this question there.

    • Chat
    • Teléfono
    • Facebook Messenger
    • Centros de historia familiar locales

Desafortunadamente, no podemos ayudarle con ningún otro sitio web, programa, o aplicación. Tampoco podemos apoyar o promover ferias y conferencias de historia familiar externas.

    Krystal,

Your work is extremely valuable and could be tremendous help to others!

One of the best ways to preserve your work and donate to FamilySearch is to create a gedcom version of your Excel Sheet and then upload the gedcom to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/import/files

There are conversion tools to create gedcom files from Excel, but to keep lineage-linked (family connections) data, it becomes complex.

Probably the easiest way to create gedcom is to IMPORT your Excel sheet into RootsMagic or Legacy Family Tree (Free versions). Both of these (and there are more) allow you to export to GEDCOM. Once your data is in Gedcom format, you may share it with FamilySearch and other genealogy sites if you prefer.

Once uploaded to FamilySearch, it may be viewed in Search>Genealogies .

@krystal3 That is a very impressive personal spreadsheet. Melissa is correct in what she has stated. But something else you may also want to consider to help other people and keep researching these names is to add the names and any information found to "Add Unconnected Person" in FamilySearch and click on "Recents". Here is an article that talks about it: "A common reason for adding individuals who are not connected to your family line is to add people who have a probable family relationship that is not verified because the records are inadequate, such as those who have the same last names and who resided in the same small geographical areas as known ancestors."

Tip: When you add an unconnected person, it is helpful to record the ID number of the new record for future reference.
