Garza/Nunez
I have been searching for the parents of my great-grandparents for a number of years and keep hitting a brick wall. Any help or suggestions? Here are a few details:
Blas Garza married Luisa Nunez (abt 1902) in Karnes County. Can't find a county or church marriage record. They were Catholic.
Son, Daniel, was born in 1903 in Runge. I have his baptism record.
Luisa died about 1912 most likely near Runge or Karnes City. Can't find a headstone or death record.
Blas married her sister, Margarita, about 1922 in Karnes County. Can't find a marriage record but have a baptism record of their child, Samuel.
Margarita died in Brazos County about 1933. Can't find a death certificate. I have record of her headstone. Note: Margarita was married previously and had 10 children. I don't know her previous married name. Margarita also went by Maggie.
Blas died in Brazos County about 1936. I have his death certificate. He was married a 3rd time to an Aurora Lopez but only for a short time. I haven't been able to find a marriage between Blas or Aurora.
I have some records (births, censuses, deaths) none of which help me with the parents of Luisa or Margarita. I am trying to find death records for both Luisa and Margarita Nunez. Also, I have searched for marriage records for both couples in Karnes County and Catholic Church records where Daniel was born. No results. I have searched obituaries. No luck.
I have a death certificate for Blas Garza. The parents on the certificate are Hailario Garza and Madie Refugia. This is the only record I can find pertaining to his parents except for an 1880 census for Blas Garza showed his parents were Sabino Garza and Maria. I would like to find at least one more record to determine which parent names are correct and if Sabino could have been a nickname for HIlario?

Hi Susan,
Have spent time looking at the family record in FamilySearch and trying to find new sources for you. You have done a superb job in your research.
Like you, I have not been able to find the parents of Luisa and Margaretta Nunez or an additional source for Blaz Garza parents.
Have you checked the following sites:?

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Brazos_County,_Texas_Genealogy
I will continue looking and let you know if I find more.
Thank you for using FamilySearch,

Hi Susan,
Is the 1880 census you reference the Cameron county census? I see Savino listed as the head of household but no wife is listed. There are six children, Blas being the youngest at 3 months old. If that is the same family, have you tried locating records for Blas's siblings to see if they might provide additional information? If that's not the correct family can you tell me exactly which 1880 census record you mean? Thank you!

Yes, the 1880 census is for Cameron County. I show the father's name is Sabino. Sabino/Savino, either could be correct. I know for sure that Blas had at least two brothers...Ramon and Fidencio. They are found together in the 1900 census in Karnes County. Ramon Garza was the head of house. The 1880 census does not have a Findencio but there is a Lorenso with the same birth year (1868) so they could possibly be the same person. I don't think I've looked into the other siblings found on the 1880 census so that is a good suggestion! Thank you. I appreciate your help and any other suggestions you may have!

Carol,
Thanks again for all your help with Margarita Nunes. Yes, I've checked the website for Karnes and Brazos Counties. With the new information on Margarita and her previous husband, Sefrino Rodriguez, I'm hoping to find a church marriage record in Karnes County. It would most likely have her parent's names on that record. The hard part is finding the church where the marriage is recorded. The church where I've found other family baptisms and marriages was St. Cornelius in Karnes City but those records don't begin until 1904.
