I tried the merge and it went just fine. I'm not sure whether there was just a server issue when you tried or if something else was going on. I did notice that when I first came to the page, the stripe next to the missing mother was blue. When I added a spouse there, I did specify she was female. This turned the stripe pink but left the new duplicate mother in the top half of the couple box. I did switch that before merging.

    Hi,

I've come across this several times. Merging isn't the problem, or the solution.

Each of those children has an extra parental relationship, to the father alone. Use the little pen symbol next to the child under the father alone, not under both parents, and 'Remove' the father. It's not really the father that gets removed but the (extra) relationship.

Be aware that there could be a legitimate reason for this set up. eg. one relationship from child to father and step-mother (even if she isn't listed as such), and another relationship to the father and an as-yet unknown biological mother, which would look like a link to the father alone.

I'm not suggesting that is the case here, just that it's a possible explanation for what appears to be a senseless set up.

As a general practice, Colin, for various reason, I have found that it works best in situations where one parent is missing and there are duplicate child to parent relationships, it is best to merge relationships rather than delete relationships by adding a temporary duplicate of the missing parent then immediately merging that duplicate with the existing parent. That is, in the example above I added mother C then merged C into Caroline.

    Hello @don martin thomas ,

I checked Louis Felix Blair L7S5-9LB. It looks like you got it all figured out. Nicely done.

You are related to my husband through Merlin Thompson Whittle KWZW-RZS.

Are you happy with the results?

    Best,

    Anitra, mod

Nope, not related, but I guess we are all brothers and sisters.
