I have a false family tree connection. How can I delete that connection from the tree? This connection to Francis Napier and Charles Madison Shelton is wrong and not part of the family but how can I delete that connection? Thank You.

I believe this article will will help you to solve the problem:

A person in Family Tree has the wrong spouse

Article Id: 1432, Published November 25, 2020. You can correct an incorrect couple relationship at any time. Here are the steps to remove or replace an incorrect spouse.

Tip: removing or replacing an individual's records can feel intimidating. Rest assured that changes can be undone in the Latest Changes feature. It's also helpful to record the ID number so that the removed or replaced person is easy to find later on.

    Steps (website)

    1. While signed in to FamilySearch.org, navigate to the Person page of the individual with the incorrect spouse.
    2. If you do not see Vitals near the top of the page, click the Details tab.
    3. Scroll to the Family Members section.
    4. Under Spouses and Children, you can view the different relationships.
    5. In the box showing the incorrect couple relationship, click the Edit icon .
    6. Click Remove or Replace next to the incorrect spouse.
    7. Click the check box on the Remove or Replace screen to verify that you reviewed the relationships, sources, and notes.
    8. Do one of the following:
      1. To remove an incorrect spouse, click Remove Person. Explain why, and then click Remove.
      2. To replace an incorrect spouse, click Replace Person. The Replace Person screen appears.
        • If you know the spouse's ID number, click Find by ID Number, enter the ID number, and then click Find. Click Add Person. Explain your reason for the change, and then click Replace.
        • If you do not know the spouse's ID number, complete the search fields, and then click Next. If the correct person appears in the list, click Add Person. Otherwise, click Create New to create a new record. Explain your reason for the change, and then click Replace.

Good luck in your efforts in working in your family tree.

Be sure to thoroughly document why you know this connection is wrong. Otherwise the next person to come a long might just put it right back.

Also, before just deleting the relationship, try to evaluate where the error occurred that created the relationship. Were there two Willie Anna Mae Sheltons that got merged together? Are there sources on the record that show two people got confused and mixed up? Did Francis and Charles have a daughter Anna?

If you can fix both your family and Francis and Charles' family with sufficient documentation, you minimize the change the error will be repeated.

Thank you all. I believe the error occurred when the automatic relationship suggestion came about and not knowing any better apparently I must have approved it although I do not remember that. It caused all kinds of problems with the relatives of the former husband.

We thank you for your message and question

We suggest that you do a 100% check of everything connected with the family structure. You wrote that I have a false family tree connection. How can I delete that connection from the tree? This connection to Francis Napier and Charles Madison Shelton is wrong and not part of the family but how can I delete that connection? Thank You. If Charles Madison is the wrong person then the process of remove or replace is the process you want to use. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-request-the-removal-of-a-familysearch-ancestor-page-ancestors-familysearch-org

You will remove the wrong person from your line but not from the database.

We thank you for contacting family search.

    David,

When wrong people are "back", it is not due to "the system" but is related to the work and changes being done by other users of FamilyTree. If you go to the last person that is correct, you can often review the Latest Changes category found in the right column of a person's page. By clicking near the bottom of this category, you can select to Show All of the changes since the person was added to FamilySearch/FamilyTree. You may then be able to determine who was removed from a relationship with your person so you can then work on restoring the relationship that you feel or know are correct. It is extremely highly recommended to add source documents when any change is being made although it is common for people to not do this.

After you make corrections and have everything "just right", it can be helpful to post a message in the Life Sketch category that is found near the top left side of every person's Details page.

The article here provides suggestions to reduce the likelihood of others making inappropriate changes to the records your are working on: https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-can-i-prevent-other-people-from-making-inaccurate-changes-to-family-tree

The Related Articles near the bottom of this linked article can also be valuable and useful.
