in this batch most of the names are crossed out and some of them I can read but some I can't so should I mark the ones I can't read as unreadable or blank?

On the ones you can't read any thing, you would mark the surname or sometimes even the given name Unreadable and index the enlistment date.

On the ones you can read portions of the names you can use wildcards - the ? (question mark) for one unreadable letter and the * (asterisk) for more than one unreadable letter.

LIke the first one: Surname - M*n Given Name: Raymond I

You can read more about this in the Project Instruction's General Indexing Guidelines under the topic - Unreadable Information.

Good Luck! Just do your best!

This does not address crossed out names that are probably enumerated somewhere else

@Juanita Smith_3 Hi please give us the Batch Code found in brackets to the right of the Project Name, like this [XXXX-XXX] in order to receive the best answer to your question about crossed out names

Crossed out information is indexed. This is addressed in the General Indexing Guidelines Section of the Project Instructions:

Crossed-Out, Corrected, Canceled, or Void Information

When information was crossed out, corrected, canceled, or marked void, follow the instructions for “crossed out” that match the situation.

    • When information was crossed out and then replaced, type the new information in the appropriate fields.
    • When information was crossed out, was not replaced, and can be read, type the crossed-out information.
    • When information was crossed out, was not replaced, and cannot be read, mark the field as unreadable by pressing Ctrl+U, or on the indexing toolbar, click the Question Mark Icon.

We don't worry about whether a name might be enumerated elsewhere, we index the crossed out names.
