Abbrev for Junior?
This is probably a basic question, but it's my first time indexing so I want to get it right.
I'm indexing electoral rolls and the listing is (given names): Timothy Beehane, junr
Do I copy exactly as is or do I use a standard abbreviation for Junior such as Jr or Jnr... or do I omit it completely?

Hi Lesley and welcome to Indexing! I hope you enjoy the projects.
Unless the project has a field for suffixes or terms/titles, then you ignore those Jr, sr, III, etc.
It is a very good question, especially since the field help for surnames and the general indexing guidelines oftentimes do not address nor to index these suffixes with surnames. Field helps are found by clicking on the purple question mark when you click on a field.

Ok, so now I have
Harley, Herbert Henry and
Harley, Herbert Henry, junr
so if I omit the junr there will be 2 identical entries?

It is okay to only have 1 entry for Harley, Herbert Henry. The goal is to create a searchable entry to get a researcher to the image. They will see that there is an HHH Sr and a Jr.
Here is a training article on Titles and Terms that tells us: The general rule is to not type them into the Given Name or in the Surname fields. If no Titles and Terms field is included in the batch, do not include them.

Titles and Terms is the old indexing field that is now called Suffixes. Since there isn't one in your project, you have no where to include Junr.
