William Benjamin Davis Palestine Texas
William Benjamin Davis b Dec 1839 according the census. His CW pension in Texas says he was born in Macon GA and arrived in Texas in 1855. Where should I look for family groups moving to Texas from GA in this time period. It's hard to believe he traveled alone.
In 1880 he was in Williamson Co, TX. He was married in Austin, but the marriage is registered in Hays Co, TX. He spent most of his life in Palestine, Anderson Co, TX and died in 1926-there is no death certificate.
His son's family, Granville Ward Davis, in 1905, entertained Mrs J S Davis of San Marcos, TX [I think John Springer Davis-sheriff of Hays Co] John Springer, son of Henry Ward Davis is a relative of mine.
Williamson, Anderson, Hays counties-what area of Texas is this considered?
Are there records about groups of lawmen like Granville Ward Davis and John Springer Davis that would shed light on their family information?

It's true that most people did not travel alone but he was single when he arrived in Texas, so it's plausible he traveled alone. In the 1860 census for Austin, Travis Co., TX there is a W. B. Davis b. 1838 in GA working as a printer.
W. B. married Elizabeth J. Carr in Hays Co. on 28 Feb 1861. Hays Co. is adjacent to Travis Co to the South.
Williamson and Bell County are north of Travis Co.
Anderson Co. is NE of Williamson and Bell.
All these counties are pretty much in Central Texas.
I live in Waco, McLennan Co., Texas so I'm pretty familiar with the area. I thought maybe we'd be related! My 3rd Ggrandfather (John Moore) and his wife (Elizabeth Davis) came from Georgia in the 1850's and settled in Coryell and McLennan counties.
I checked the book "The Trail Drivers of Texas" and there is no mention of them. You might want to do some searching of the Texas Rangers (police).
Sorry about the late reply and hope I have offered some help. Please contact me if I can do help you more.

Henry Ward Davis picked up a Malone wife in GA before he got to Hays Co, TX. Another relative, Robert Thomas Davis was listed as 'gone west' in another cousin's estate records. Henry and his two sisters with their Jenkins husbands have descendants all over the central part of Texas.
I'm still hoping for records about the death of W B Davis in 1926 that may shed light on parents or siblings.
Thanks for your response.

My major switch is to change it to his cousin Henry Ward Davis who lived in Hayes Co, TX.
