The first major item you see on the page is Featured Groups. However there is no description of what a Group is, the purpose and benefits of a Group, how it operates, the difference between a Question and a Discussion) (perhaps this may be explained when you have joined a group, but why not be upfront}. Very important from my point of view is to state information which has been given recently in other posts: that if you post a either a Question or Discussion in the Group you will only receive an answer from a Group member and that for Questions you may be better off posting in the Q and A section of Community where potentially more people may see your queries, particularly if the Group is small.
Although there is a side bar for Q and A there is no general description of what this category is for,' A general description should be added. There should be a few examples, e.g. genealogical questions should be posted in ?? (I do not know the required category. I have seen such questions under "Search Discover new search strategies for finding historical records" and under "Other Can’t find a category that fits? Post your question here")
There should also be some sort of reference to the matter of posting Questions in Groups, and another reminder that if a question is posted in Groups, only the members of the Group will be looking at the question.
I noticed that in the previous platform under General Questions an almost default reply from the person who was I think the main moderator in response to a genealogical question was to refer the person to a Group to ask their question there. With recent changes such that now only Group members can answer a question (previously any Community signed in person could) I question whether it would now be ethical to refer a person to a group unless it is a LARGE Group
There should also be some description of Ideas and what should be posted in these categories and a cross reference to whether Q And A or Groups would be more appropriate.
Another related matter which I think should be changed is that if you click on Feedback at the bottom of The Family Search main page, one of the options is "Community Discussion Join the community of family history enthusiasts and FamilySearch employees to ask questions and discuss potential product enhancements. GO TO DISCUSSION BOARD" If you click on GO TO DISCUSSION BOARD you are taken to the Ideas page https://community.familysearch.org/en/categories/ids-suggestion
If you have a question and if you are "lucky" you will notice there is a side bar Q and A. I think it would be better to have the Feedback on the FS Main Page default to the FamilySearch Community Main Page instead of to the Ideas category, assuming that the FamilySearch Community Main Page is improved with more added information.
