Kalisch, revisited
My apologies: I made a mistake in my original inquiry (Feb. 24). The Kalisch, whose [Lutheran] parish records I was searching, is in the Posen district(?), not Berent (which appears to be considerably further to the north). I have no reason to assume that my ancestors were in one Kalisch as opposed to another, but if I wanted to look for records in communities adjacent to/near Kalisch/Posen, is there a resource that could identify those parishes? Unless I am misreading or searching incorrectly, I am not finding Kalisch/Posen in Meyers or in Kartnemeister.
Thank you.

Dan, do you mean the Lutheran parish in Kalisz (which sounds like Kalisch) which was in Russian Poland? It's located about 75 miles SW of the city of Poznan. (see map) For records for this location see: https://www.sggee.org/research/parishes/church_parishes/LutheransInRusPoland.html

Thank you for that link. I was able to go through the films from Kalisz (the ones that covered the 1790-1808 period of interest to me) at the local Family History Center about 18 months ago. It looks like there are Kalisz records (dating from 1794-1910) in the Posen Archive that are not on film or online, but I will check further on that.
Unfortunately, there are at least 8 villages/cities named Kalisz. In addition, I do not know whether the "Kalisch" mentioned in the death register (1884) as my ancestor's place of birth is to a community or, as you suggested in an earlier reply, the Kalisch Voivodeship that was created after his emigration to Glueckstal in 1808.
Again, thank you for taking the time to send the link. I appreciate it.

- You may also check http://www.slupcagenealogy.com/SearchPg.aspx where they have indexed records from several parishes of Kalisz. You may check the Evangelical records in http://basia.famula.pl/en/skany as you scroll down to Kalisz, and them look for the years of interest to you in Akta stanu cywilnego Parafii Ewangelicko-Augsburskiej Kalisz they have years 1914 and 1915, and then 1875-1911. They are not indexed. Enjoy your research.

Thank you for those two links. Both sites were unfamiliar to me and will keep me busy as I explore them. I did a quick search on the Slupca site and found individuals with the right surname but, unfortunately, the birthdates were quite a few decades after my direct ancestors had left. But there is more to go through, particularly as it relates to communities, parishes, and churches. Needless to say, I am learning a great deal more about Poland than I ever thought I would want to know.
Again, thank you.
