When a date is clearly incorrect
I've got a military discharge record that says the person in question was just a few days shy of 8 years old when he was enlisted as a MARRIED MAN.
I cannot in good conscience say that this birth year is accurate. All the discharge papers are around the same year (nearing the end of WWII). So, it is obvious that the discharge year is correct, and the birth year is wrong.
I'm entering "Blank" for this entry. But what happens during checking? This is just plain wrong.
