Limit Beginning Indexing Batches to Give New Indexers Experience
Beginning-level-difficulty batches are very scarce in English (and maybe other languages) and it makes it hard for new indexers to gain experience on easy batches. I think we lose some indexers because they cannot find easy batches to work on at first. I think it would be a good idea to limit the number of beginning batches indexable to users so that new users always have a supply of easier projects to try. I regularly help people try indexing and we always have problems finding appropriate difficulty projects. I am sure I could pump out 10,000 names a month on beginning level projects, but that doesn't help our cause since once anyone has indexed 500-1000 names, they should be doing intermediate or higher projects exclusively. If we choke out new users now, we will really be in a bind in the future when the current indexers are no longer working. Beginner projects must be the training grounds for new indexers and reviewers to keep indexing viable and strong.
