view my relationship

I think the view my relationship feature (to show how I might be linked through a common ancestor to another FamilySearch contributor) is very useful. Very much like Ancestry Thrulines, it can provide a starting point for further research to establish new branches of a personal tree. View my relationship to another FamilySearch contributor can be accessed from a number of places where the contributor's user name is shown. Most convenient is in the 'Latest changes box', which shows the three most recent changes and the username of the person making the change. But surprisingly, when "show all" is listed, while contributor names are shown, they are not linked to the "view my relationship" feature. I think it would enhance the 'view my relationship' feature significantly to have the contributor usernames in 'show all' also linked to 'view my relationship'.

Another problem with "view my relationship" is that after a year of enabling it on your account, it automatically disables. You have to go back to the account settings to re-enable it.

    .

'FamilySearch' has, many competing priorities; and, limited resources.

    .

Such as what you suggest ALREADY exists in one of the "Third Party" Applications that is "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    As such ...

    .

Can I humbly suggest that ANOTHER place where you SHOULD be able to 'See' your "Relationship" with individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; PLUS, you can ALSO "Print" the connections/links between you and them is, ... and, if you have not already ... you could try (BYU) "RelativeFinder" ...

    .

(BYU) "RelativeFinder" digs (pun intended) a lot DEEPER in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', than 'FamilySearch' does.

    .

(BYU) "RelativeFinder" is one of the "Third Party" Applications that "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

BYU = Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, USA (ie. the Church University).

    .

From the "Family History Technology Laboratory", of the "Computer Science" Department.

    .

Here is direct link to "RelativeFibder"

    https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main

    .

    image.

"RelativeFinder" has many 'Bells and Whistles', that you might find useful.

    .

Apart from your links/connections to, "Famous People"; and, "Others" ...

    .

(BYU) "RelativeFinder" has some interesting options ...

    .

There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between yourself and a "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between two (x2) "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'

    .

There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between ("Living" - Users/Patrons) Friends in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Give it a go ...

    .

    Magic.

    .

    Enjoy.

    I hope this helps.

    .

    FYI

    .

'NO', that is NOT a problem/issue, that is BY "Design" ...

    .

Like is or not, that is a "Security" Feature ...

    .

After 12 Months/1 Year, that particular "Authority"/"Permission", lapses; and, MUST be Re-Established.

    .

[ That is EXACTLY how some other parts of 'FamilySearch' work - eg. "(Consultant) Planner" - those that you are "Helping" ]

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Just my thoughts ...

    .

    And, rightly so ...

    .

In fact, I would "Disable" (ie. "Revoke") ANY "View My Relationship" that I have "Enabled"; as soon as, we have finished "Collaborating"; as, it can be easily re-established.

    .

I am just glad that the "System" does it "Automatically", after 12 Months/1 Year, in case I forget.

    .

I do not know about you; but, ...

    .

I DO NOT want the "View My Relationship" to be "Open" for ALL to see, I value MY "Privacy" (and, that of my Relatives/Relations).

    .

    Again, Just my thoughts.
