If you search in the GRO https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ you can see the mother's maiden name which may help. You can order a pdf version which is cheaper and comes to your email. you may of course know about this.

Short Answer: In most cases, 'No', you will have to get a "Copy".
.
Sometimes you get lucky; and, find a "Copy" somewhere else; but, usually, not.
.
By the way ...
Are you aware that ...
.
IF, you actually look, on the 'On-Line' "Index" of "Birth Registrations", for the "General Registry Office" (GRO), for 'England and Wales', the Mother's "Maiden" 'Family Name'/'Surname' is "Listed" on the "Index", provided of course that the Birth was NOT "Illegitimate" (ie. Born 'Out of Wedlock'), all the way back to the Third (ie. September) Quarter of 1837.
.
It is FREE to, BOTH, "Register" (as a User/Patron); and, access/view the "Index", On-line, with/through the "General Registry Office" (GRO), for 'England and Wales', where you can 'see' the Mother's "Maiden" 'Family Name'/'Surname' is "Listed", if available (ie. NOT an "Illegitimate" Birth).
.
And, as 'Linda' has already proffered ...
.
It is ONLY £7 to get an 'On-Line' ("Digital") "Copy"; as, a PDF Document, of the ACTUAL (Whole) Registry entry, for the individual/person.
.
Here is the website for the "General Registry Office" (GRO), for 'England and Wales' (which is part of, H.M.'s "Passport Office", of the Government of the "United kingdom":
.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
.
.
Registration page
.
.
Cost page, of an actual entry
[ with the the £7 option, 'Circled" in 'Red' ... ]
.
.
Give it a go.
.
Register as a User/Patron.
.
You will most likely be able to 'see' the the Mother's "Maiden" 'Family Name'/'Surname' is "Listed" on the "Index", to give you a 'clue'; as, to where or not that is the CORRECT record; and, where or not you should order.
.
I hope this helps,
.
