How or where do I find death certificates for New York City from 1898?
During the Expo, a genealogist showed me how to find a death certificate and I know he used Family Search for most if not all of it. He actually brought up one of the death certificate I was looking for. I thought I correctly wrote the steps down but apparently I did not. I think I may have been on the page he showed me but I can not open any of the information. It says I must do this at a Family Search Center but he did not say I would have to do that. Does anyone know how/where he found it? Thank you - from a non-tech savvy person!

Ruby, this is Tim I'm the one who helped you. Are you using the Steve Morse one step site https://stevemorse.org/ Once you get to the site scroll down on the page to Births, Deaths, and other Vital Records. That section has the NY indexes and access to images.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...
.
FYI
.
IF, a Record in 'FamilySearch' indicates that it can ONLY be accessed at, either, the "Family History Library" (FHL) of the Church, in "Temple Square" in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; or, one of the "Family History Centres" (FHCs) of the Church, around the World (and/or, "Affiliate" Libraries, around the World); THEN, it is possible that such access was "Allowed", at; and, during "RootsTech"; as, that is a "Special" Event.
.
You may even be following the "Steps" that you were shown at RootsTech; but, that "Access" is NOT/NO LONGER available - outside of; and, beyond, "RootsTech".

As such ...

As an aside ...

I am "Tagging" this (General) 'Question' of yours in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, to two (x2) specific 'Groups' in the Forum being:
(1) "New York"; and,
(2) "United States Genealogy Research",
in the hope that, the members of those groups may be able to answer/assist you.
.
Both, those Groups, are "Public", which you can join, if you wish.

I went t here and selected the Family search one and it said no image available. So I selected the IGG index one and it showed that the record exists with name, age, cert # etc, but when I click view image it still says I need to be at a Family Search Center to see image.

Ruby give me the names and certificate numbers and I will make copies and post them here for you. I thought those records were available.
