FYI

.

'Heads Up' ...

.

'See' a "List", of ALL (OTHER) Users/Patrons "Following", those we "Follow"

.

I just noticed this tonight ...

.

Under the "Following" 'Tab', we can NOW 'see' a "List" of ALL the (OTHER) Users/Patrons ALSO "Following", those the We "Follow" ...

.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/following/

.

Take a look ...

.

LIST of Users__Patrons FOLLOWING those We FOLLOW _ 0.

LIST of Users__Patrons FOLLOWING those We FOLLOW _ 1.

AND ...

.

You CAN also 'Send' them a 'Message" through "User/Messaging" of 'FamilySearch'.

.

LIST of Users__Patrons FOLLOWING those We FOLLOW _ 2.

You have to, get an 'handle' on how to use; and, master, the "Filters" ...

But, once you do ...

Magic ...

.

Enjoy

.

Pass it around ...

I wonder if FS users forget that any FS user can modify any ID because it is truly a shared database? For that reason, I always click "Follow" for any users that I'm closing connected to or have a special interest in. Each month I automatically receive a report of changes made to IDs that I follow. This way I can review changes made to the IDs that I follow, for their correctness and to be aware of new sources added. The report also provides the username that made the change so I can reach out to them for more info etc.

    .

'No', those of us (ie. Users/Patrons), who use the "Watch" List (Oops, sorry, the "Follow" List), FULLY understand the basic nature and premise of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

For some time, I have been "Checking" the "List" of "Changes" of those I "Watch"/"Follow", on a "Daily" Basis, just to keep on top of any 'wayward'/'untoward' changes.

    .

[ And, believe me, there are more than one would expect or hope for ... ]

    .

I used to have to rely on the "Weekly" E-mail from 'FamilySearch', NOW, I can check the "Changes", whenever; and, how often, I like.

    .

This NEW much requested (additional) feature, to be able to 'see' a "List" of those OTHER Users/Patrons (and, be able to 'Message' them, if needs be) who ARE "Watching"/"Following" those, that we ourselves are "Watching"/"Following", is SO 'handy'.

    .

Just look at that example, I posted in this post of mine, 587 OTHER Users/Patrons are ALSO "Watching"/"Following", the same person.

    .

    But ...

    That said ...

    .

Back to your opening thoughts ...

    .

Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic nature and premise of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.

    .

They do not understand; or, I suspect, more so, do not want to understand, that ...

    .

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).

    .

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.

    .

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

And, in fact, we do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We can certainly "Watch"/"Follow" them in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and, address/fix any 'wayward' alterations; but, that is it.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    Phew ...

    .

    'Off my Soap Box' ...

    .

This NEW feature is just such a great 'Tool'.

Fantastic. In my initial enthusiasm with Family Search (involved at the Beta stage) I found out I was following over 4,000 people. Now going through to get number to about 400. Was able to immediately connect with a relative I do not know over identifation of family in a photo. Great step forward. Thank you.
