how to begin a new tree in family search

    well. . . keep in mind - in reality it is one database that we all share collaboratively . . . and not a bunch of disjoint private family trees

     

    BUT - to create a new person record - that is not linked to anyone you see in your default view

    you can use the "ADD UNCONNECTED PERSON" option

    Are you just starting on FamilySearch? Have you already linked yourself into the Family Tree? Have you already, for instance, been able to see yourself on FamilySearch connected to your own parents and grandparents? Or are you an experienced FamilySearch user wanting to create a branch of the Family Tree starting with someone besides yourself? In order for us to answer your question, we need more information.

    great point Joe. we tend to assume they mean an additional tree from one they already have - but sometimes they are asking how to start from scratch.

    Here's a picture I post occasionally that might be related to your question. After you have completed starting up "your" family tree in the single, shared FSFT, it will look something like this:
