How do I show that a person was married twice. A child was born in first union. Second marriage resu
You should "add" a marriage to the person in question, also add a child. The dates of marriage should be clearly listed to show the time frames of both marriages. If you have trouble with this process, then I would suggest you join "FamilySearch Tips & Tricks Community" AND/OR "Getting Started on FamilySearch Community". You can get a little training in one of these Communities.0
Just some clarification. First you must create two "Couple Relationships," one between the person and each of their spouses. Then to show information about those "Couple Relationships", you add Couple Relationship Events to each of them. In this case, you would add a marriage event (there are many couples that have never been married). Then you add the same child to each Couple Relationship (make sure it is the same PID number for the child).
The Parent-Child relationship between the child and the parents defaults to "Biological", so if nothing about the relationship is showing on the Family Members information, it is biological. In your case, the child had a Parent-child relationship type of "Step" in the second marriage. So you would edit the Parent-child relationship and add the relationship type of "Step"
Note that in this case, the stepdaughter was formally Adopted so the parent child relationship between the daughter and her non-biological father is "Adopted" instead of "Step".
Also note that in this case the daughter's biological parents never had a family type Couple Relationship between them as the father took off before the daughter was born. Since no "Couple Relationship" existed between the parents, there is nothing to add a marriage EVENT to (or any other Couple Relationship type EVENT for that matter. E.g., Divorce, Lived Together, Common Law, etc.). In your case, there would most likely be a Couple Relationship with a marriage event between the biological parents.
Note that when you have two sets of parent for a child like this, you can set one as the "Preferred" set using the check button under the parents. This will control which part of the tree you can see when navigating (say) a pedigree chart. Also note that that setting can also be changed from within the landscape pedigree chart as well which is rather convenient.0
