When my great-grandfather emigrated from a small town in central Switzerland (Waltensburg, west of Chur) in the 1880's, his name was spelled Cadonau. Earlier Swiss records for his ancestors sometimes show a spelling of ca'Donau. While "of the Danube" is wonderfully more specific than "NewMan," it's still quite a big river. I'm curious if there might be a more specific region it could be referring to. Was there a region noted for emigration to Switzerland, likely 1500's or 1600's?
