Does anyone have accurate information about why call numbers have disappeared for so many hard-copy
Hello Holly. The catalog isn't easy but I did find this call number on your first example.
And this for the second.
You can order it from one of these libraries, except the Salt Lake Family History Library. I've ordered books from WorldCat. Like a mail library.
So you go to the Catalog and bring up one of these books, https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1022672?availability=Family%20History%20Library
Then click on the View this catalog record in WorldCat for other possible copy locations.
Apparently it hasn't been Indexed yet, or the contract that Familysearch has with the owners of the book prevents us from Indexing.
I wasn't able to find it on Ancestry.com. You can Google the title and find other libraries you might be able to request the book as a library loan.
About this record
This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.
The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.
Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.
Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:
- The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
- The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
Looking at the Catalog entries quoted by Anitra, I cannot see anywhere on the Catalogue page where the books are actually held. The assumption may be that they are held at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, but the Catalog entry does not actually say this.
I believe this is related to some recent changes to the Catalog pages which in my view are BAD changes.
