Hi Judy. You index the individual's names that are in listings or advertisements. For instance,

Norland AM, house finishing dept. The Rike-Kumler Co. 92 W Ferndale (Clara)

    There would be records for

Given Name: A M Surname: Norland Spouse's Given Name: Clara

    Given Name: <blank> Surname: Rike

    Given Name: <blank> Surname: Kumler

Index names of employers and and employees. When indexing business names, index the names of individuals only. For example, "The Ad Book" would not be indexed, but "Barner Kehlenbeck Wines and Liquors" should be indexed. In this case, you would create 2 entries. One for Barner (surname) and another for Kehlenbeck (surname). Do not index occupations or terms such as, "banker," "policeman," "M.D.," or similar terms.

I'm going to share your post in @Indexing Chat. I hope you will consider joining the group and posting questions on that page for quicker answers.
