If there is no image on an indexed record, can I still see the image somewhere?
So I am looking for an ancestor in France, and I have found multiple potential match individuals. Usually, I can find other details than those indexed by seeing the actual image of the document. But for the French records I'm reviewing have no image with them. If the information was indexed though, there surely must be an image somewhere. Does anybody know how I could access that image? Is it on a microfilm somewhere that I could order or request it?

Most indexed sources have a blue box on the right hand side. The one I'm looking at now has "This record came from this set of images. You will need to look through several images to find this record. Browse the film." And I can click on Browse The Film and it takes me to images of the original record. Then I jump around the records looking for the right year, right month, right day since there are usually hundreds or thousand of images.

The two previous responses are correct for many situations. However, the owners/custodians of some records have allowed them to be indexed but have specified that the images not be made available. In that situation it would be necessary to directly contact the organization that is listed as the owner of the record.
