Sort Order in the Communities
Ideas / FamilySearch Community seems to have a sort order of:
- Trending
- Top
- New
"Trending" isn't helpful to me.
"Top" - no idea what this is...
"New" - is this sort by creation date / time?
I can't find the option to Sort by Latest Activity. Where is it? It needs to be at the top for anyone coming in to see what's changed in their community.
My Feeds / group-whatever doesn't even appear to have a sort order. Then when you click "View All" at the bottom of the 5(?) items listed, you end up in Groups, so right now I don't understand what use My Feeds is.
Incidentally, Groups / My Groups doesn't seem to pick up any of my groups until the 2nd go...

Oh, and another by the way - I italicised some words above - they are indeed italic. I also bolded some - they look identical to normal weight text.
It's also really poor UI design to not use a permanent icon for bold, italic, etc, and rely on someone double clicking to see the pop up icons. It looks at first glance like there is no formatting ability.

Perhaps it is American terminology, but I don't know what the terms Trending and Top mean in relation to the order of posts. (I am in Australia).
In response to Adrian's second post, I agree that there should be permanent icons for bold, italics etc, especially since there are some icons shown.
Also for the pop up icons, I know what B and I generally stand for, but I don't know what the three remaining icons are, and when I run my mouse over them there is no explanation as to what they do, if anything. On a recent post I used the Bold icon, but there appeared to be no difference at all.
Regarding the quote from Adrian above, I wanted to just include the last sentence, but I was unable to delete the first part. Other Forums I am familiar with enable you to delate part of the quote. I think you should be able to just include the wording you want from the previous post to be more targeted in what you say.

FYI
There is "Formatting", just NOT what most of us are used to; or, want ...
[ Or, at least, there was in the "Beta" ("Test") Environment ... just giving it a go ... ]
Test ... [ H2 (Larger & Bold) ... but, H3; H4; & H5 do not really look any different ... ]
- Test2a ... [ Indent = Bullets ]
- Test 2b ... Indent = Numbered ]
Test 3a ... [ Quote ]
Test3b ... [ Code Block ]
Test3c ... [ Spoiler Warning ]
Test4a ... [ Bold ]
Test4b ... [ Italics ]
Test4c ... [ Strikethrough ]Test4d ... [ Within Braces ]
And ...
Those 'Icons' below ... in order from left to right ...
▬ Emoji Picker
▬ Upload Image
▬ Insert Media
▬ Upload File
Pictorially ...

One always expects teething problems with the introduction of significant changes - well, a virtually different platform in this case. However, it is baffling to see that basic points (as mentioned by Maureen and Adrian) have just not been thought through. It took me a while to adjust to the previous Community platform, after participating in the defunct GetSatisfaction forum for many years, but there will need to be a lot of clear advice before I feel comfortable working here.
Oh, I've just seen what is meant by "double-clicking" to get a formatting function menu - am I in a minority, having never encountered this way of working before?
Does anyone honestly believe this is more user-friendly and has improved functions compared to what has been replaced?

Yeh - I was a bit annoyed by the TRENDING that I have to adujst everytime I go in.
can we just have it default to whatever the user last chose.
they choose an option - and it STICKS - until they choose a different option.
Trending just doesnt make sense to me as the default.

Exactly Dennis. If "Trending" means what I think it means, it's the "Hot topics" that Facebook would put first on your list. That might be useful to the Mods or to FS staff who want to monitor what's going on. It's not remotely useful to me.
Typical Bulletin Board software includes
- New Posts
- Unread Posts
- Unanswered topics
I'm never quite sure what New means - new since when?
The crucial menu item for me is Unread Posts - that's any posts (new threads or new comments / answers / whatever on existing threads) - that I haven't read. That's what I need to catch up with the board / group. I'm fairly astounded that the option doesn't exist. What use cases were studied about how people would use this facility?
