Notifications are always unread

I've noticed that when I click on the notifications icon in the top right-hand corner and view my notifications, they are not marked as "read." The same number still shows up, and they are still marked as unread.

Yeah I have to physically click on Mark All Read even after I clicked on one that I 'read'.

Please note that @Jordi Kloosterboer has hit on the answer. Unfortunately, you have to click on Mark All Read to clear it. I am working with the vendor to see if we can improve this.
