FamilySearch

.

FYI

.

The "Help Centre" is NOT looking to good/healthy ...

.

https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/

.

image

.

Looks MORE like, a "404, Not Found" (eg. Page; File; Server) Error 'Message' ...

.

HTTP 404

.

The HTTP 404, 404 Not Found, 404, 404 Error, Page Not Found, File Not Found, or Server Not Found error message is a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) standard response code, in computer network communications, to indicate that the browser was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested. The error may also be used when a server does not wish to disclose whether it has the requested information.

.

The website hosting server will typically generate a "404 Not Found" web page when a user attempts to follow a broken or dead link; hence the 404 error is one of the most recognizable errors encountered on the World Wide Web.

.

.

Hopefully, this is short lived ...

.

OR ...

.

Is this the NEW 'look' ...

.

By the way, the "Help Centre" is the WORST it has ever been ...

.

I am reasonably proficient with "Finding" things in the "Help Centre" ...

.

But ...

That said ...

.

Try to find, even the 'simplest' of "Knowledge Articles" is next ti IMPOSSIBLE now; especially, the last week or so,

.

I am sorry ...

.

In fact; as, for searching for "Knowledge Articles", I would now 'kindly' (to put it, nicely) class the "Help Centre" as, ABSOLUTELY; and, utterly, "Useless".

.

And, the term, as 'coined', in the (Old) 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum, is quite appropriate at the moment:

.

The "HelpLESS Centre" ...

.

Question:

.

WHAT have you done to RUIN the "Help Centre" regarding "Knowledge Articles"?

.

Could you please advise on the latter.

.

'Thank You' in advance.

Submitted for your, attention; information; and, consideration.

All the links and the search bar works for me. Including the number 404 in the picture gives a false impression that the page doesn't work.

    .

'Yes', I agree, that "404" ("Image") is certainly projecting a false impression, that the page does not work, when in fact, it does work - it just really looks ODD.

    .

Hence, WHY I raised the matter ...

    .

    And ...

    .

'Yes', various "Links", in the "Help Centre", certainly DO work; but, that/they are not the problem/issue.

    .

    Whereas ...

    .

I am (or, should I say, was) reasonably proficient with "Finding" things (eg. "Knowledge Articles") in the "Help Centre".

    .

But, over the last couple of Weeks, the "Help Centre", is currently NOT working properly for "Searching"; especially, for "Knowledge Articles".

    .

    And ... I know.

    .

These are "Searches" that I have done a number of times in the past, using the same parameters - now, those same parameters, do not work at all.

    .

When I was there in the "Help Centre", this morning, I thought that that "Image" was 'new'ish' ...

    .

And, certainly, very ODD indeed; and, added to my concern with regarding "Searching" (especially, for "Knowledge Articles") in the "Help Centre".

    .

Just thought I would raise the matter.

    .

    .

ps: Just yesterday, another User/Patron, in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, happened to mentioned, that they were having problems/issues finding "Knowledge Articles" in the "Help Centre".

Perhaps by having the image usually associated with an error message displayed on the Help page, a casual viewer could gain the impression that the Help Center was indeed broken. Perhaps someone is making a pointed comment?

As I have said previously, I think it very sad that so many good Lessons appear to have been deleted from the Help Centre due to them requiring Flash, which has now been withdrawn. A Forum member said it is possible to convert these aids, some which are videos, but there has been no indication that this has even been considered by FamilySearch which seems a terrible waste. See the topic started by me December 2, 2020

Help Center Lessons/learning material unavailability due to Flash withdrawal

    .

    I am sorry; but ...

    .

I more concerned with the REDUCED ability to locate the IMPORTANT, much needed, BASIC, "Knowledge Articles", in the "Help Centre", than I am about the inability to run "Videos" (and, related/associated "Lessons"), due to the "Flash" problem/issue.

    .

I am, in no way, implying, that the inability to run "Videos" (and, related/associated "Lessons"), due to the "Flash" problem/issue, is not of concern.

    .

Just that the DIFFICULTY in locating BASIC "Knowledge Articles", in the "Help Centre", is of significant, immediate, concern - that, can; and, should, be immediately addressed/fixed.

    .

Finding an alternative to "Flash", to run "Videos" (and, related/associated "Lessons"); or, converting them (plus, also 'Updating' the "Content"), so they can be "Watched", is important; but, may take some time.

    .

    Just my thoughts.

    .

    Brett

Concur with all the complaints. The help center is no longer helpful. Try searching on anything and see what is suggested. Entering multiple spouses brings up indexing topics. Other similar queries bring up adding names in Pacific Island languages, etc. Not sure what happened to the search engine, but it is broken.

I see that the help center SEARCH query - does return data

just that what is returned seems nothing more than "NOISE" - rather than the most appriate items I used to find.

Just because it returns data (articles) - doesnt mean its working . . .

It need to return the RIGHT expected data.
