Forum to replace Ideas / GetSatisfaction

I see there are to be meetings to discuss the new platform, due to be introduced next week, I believe. As I won't be able to "attend" I hope others will agree that one of the most important features on the GetSat forum was the chronological sorting of posts within a thread. At present, only the threads themselves can be sorted by "Latest Activity", etc., but this still means having to scroll through to find the most recent comments on the subject, as the position of that most recent comment appears to be quite random.

I remain undecided over whether the ability to edit ones remarks following another user's response is a good thing or not. It was frustrating not to be able to amend a typo if someone posted a response very quickly on GetSat, but being able to completely change your wording (rather than adding a new post) after a responding post can cause confusion and, I feel, can lead to one acting a bit trickily!

I don't suppose replacing "Ideas" will mean any change to the rest of "Community", where (for example) the difference between an "Answer" and a "Reply" can cause some confusion.

In the General Questions and the Community.familysearch.org Feedback groups of the FS Community, Mark E. Mitchell announced the changes over and the associated meetings, he opens by saying "In preparation for the launch of the new community"

Although it might be implied that the Ideas area is involved in the "launch of the new community", I've not actually seen any explicit statements to that effect. The announcement was about the community. But my supposition is that the whole FS Community is being replaced which would include the Ideas area.

Indeed, I appear to have mis-read the comments regarding what is due to change. I guess I am too eager to return to something that improves on "Ideas" and reverts to a format more along the lines of the former forum at GetSatisfaction.com!

Yea. In spite of all its warts, The capabilities of the GetSatisfaction.com forum in support of technical feedback and discussions was superior to either the FS Communities or the Ideas area. I do have high hopes for the future though :-)

This link was in Questions from Mark Mitchell

All, here is the link to the meeting showing off the new community. I apologize if any who were trying to get into the meeting were unable to do so.

This is the meeting which took place on 20 January

The Ideas Forum was mentioned but there wasn't anything really on things like chronological sorting of posts.

    .

    FYI

    .

    'Head Up' ...

    .

It appears when the "Change", which is a change of PLATFORM, for the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, which is taking place on 25 and 26 January 2021 (ie. a few days time; but, of course, subject to last minute change...), is a "Change" that WILL also include the, (New) "IDEAS" ('Feedback') Forum [currently within the PLATFORM of the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum], being the Temporary "Replacement", for the (Old) 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum.

    .

    image

    .

Basically, 'FamilySearch', has a chosen a PLATFORM called "Vanilla", for BOTH.

    .

The new WORKING (I will not use the words, "Final" or "Permanent") version of the "IDEAS" ('Feedback') Forum will be NOTHING like the (Old) 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum, more akin to the current "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; but, with some variations; as, the "Vanilla" PLATFORM does not do/have some of the things that the current PLATFORM does; but, apparently, has other redeeming features; plus, they are 'working' on some 'work arounds'.

    .

'All in all' ... ONLY 'Time' will tell.

    .

    NEW 'Heads Up' ...

    .

We have a "Short" respite / reprieve ...

    .

The "Change-Over", scheduled for the 25 and 26 January 2021, has need "Adjusted" (ie. postponed) until 8 February 2021.

    .

    .

I just noticed; as, I was 'sweating' on the "Change-Over", with this "Weekly" Sunday Night/Monday Morning ("Mountain Time"), that has just gone through - yet NOTHING.

    .

I then went to the "Home" page/screen of the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; and, noticed the "Adjustment" (ie. "postponement").

We have a further "Short" respite / reprieve ...

The "Change-Over", originally scheduled for the 25 and 26 January 2021, that was "Adjusted" to 8 February 2021, has again been "Re-Adjusted" (ie. postponed) until 15 March 2021.
