Descendancy Research

While serving as missionaries at the Mesa FHC we were taught that the Church allowed Descendancy research. This was especially helpful for those of us who have generations of family who have searched and researched our lines. It was a new avenue in which to spend our time to find people who needed their work done. I notice that the Church has announced that names shared with the Temple that become two years old, without any activity, will be removed from the "shared" category. Is this true, and should we cease doing "Descendancy" research?

Names in your own reservation list will expire after two years of inactivity. Names shared to the shared temple list do not expire. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-long-do-you-have-to-complete-ordinances-before-reservations-expire

This article may be interesting to you as well. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-happens-when-ordinance-reservations-expire

To those of us who are not LDS Church members your question will be completely baffling! I thought the Family Tree program was the basis from which any ordinances were later completed. If you have entered these names to Family Tree, why should you stop? The two-year factor is irrelevant when it comes to a convert (or even a long-standing member) coming across the names (you enter in Family Tree) at ANY time in the future.
I carry out my work within Family Tree in a hope that it will be a help to others, too. Okay, maybe this announcement changes things with regards to ordinance lists, but should certainly not stop you carry on in your "descendancy" research in relation to the collaborative nature of Family Tree, whereby any inputs you make might be of use to others.

In regard to Descendancy research, if you are familiar with the option to change views in Family search from Landscape, or Fan or Pedigree, to Descendancy, in that view you may discoverer record hints that could be reviewed and attached, and also Ordinance information. It will only show family members currently in Family Search.

As an aside ...
.
Can you provide a 'link' to that announcement you refer to:
.
I notice that the Church has announced that names shared with the Temple that become two years old, without any activity, will be removed from the "shared" category.
.
I have never seen such an announcement, by the Church.
.
I believe that you may have confused the announcement, that 'Amy' provided, about, what happens when our Ordinance "Reservations" EXPIRE.
.
Basically ...
.
IF, after 2 Years (or, now, also, for some, after the 90 Days) of NO ("Ordinance") Work (on one's part) for, an individual/person; or, a couple, that one has "Reserved" the ("Ordinance") Work for; THEN, the "Reservation" WILL (Automatically) "Expire"; plus, be "Removed" from one's "Reservation" List; AND, is NOW (Automatically) "Share[d] with the Temple System".
.
("Ordinance") Work that is "Share[d] with the Temple System" DOES NOT/NEVER "Expire(s)"; nor, is the ("Ordinance") Work (ever) "Removed" from the "Temple (Reservation) System" (or, how long it has been there) - NO MATTER how it is "Share[d] with the Temple System", be it, (1) by a (Member) User/Patron; or, (2) (Automatically) by the "System".
.
The important "Changes" was that:
.
(1) "Expired" Reservations are now (Automatically) "Share[d] with the Temple System"
.
(2) the ("Ordinance") Work that is "Share[d] with the Temple System" CAN now be "Requested" by Users/Patrons (with a few 'caveats').
.
The 'upside' being that, the ("Ordinance") Work that is "Share[d] with the Temple System" CAN now be "Requested" by Users/Patrons; provided that (1) a "Temple" has NOT "Printed" a "Card", ready to do the Work; and/or, (2) if required/needed, the User/Patron has or gets "Permission".
.
I hope this helps.

.
ps: We DO NOT need to STOP "Share[ing] with the Temple System" ... far from it.
.
pps: Dependency Research has NOTHING to do with the matter.

I'm confused
what does one thing have to do with the other
descendancy research versus temple reservation expiration?
