The "Exact" option boxes do not appear in a FamilySearch records search from a selected tree individual.
They continue to show in Chrome.

You should find a button/switch to re-enable the check boxes lower down on the screen.
The check boxes that narrow the search results are one of the top reasons that new users of the site are unable to find anything.
It is common for them to put in all of the information they know about a person (grandparent for example.) and then check all the boxes because they know that is correct. They don't take into account that the information they are searching for may not be exactly what is on the record. (I did the same thing 15 or so years ago.)
Moving that functionality a click away is being done to steer new users away from that behavior. The thought is that experienced users will turn the switch back on in their UI and use the feature sparingly.0 -
Stewart Millar said: You are quite right - there is an option at the bottom to switch on the "Exact" boxes - which narrows the search boxes.
This is on a 23 inch monitor . . . as at yesterday - it was displaying the "exact" boxes in line with each item.
I can undestand the "design" decision you mentioned - to not have initial searches too specific (too easily) when starting a search . . . although it seems this is not applied to Chrome which still displays the "exact" boxes in line with each item . . . and the option "at the bottom" for a Chrome user is to "Match all terms exactly" . . . which seems the worst option considering the design criteria you outlined.
This change on Firefox with my 23 inch monitor has happened overnight - these are features I use all the time (when helpful) - and was doing so yesterday.0 -

I see it on with my Chrome browser this morning.0 -
Stewart Millar said: Quite right - clearing the cookies fixed the situation to be the same as for Firefox.
However . . . what I notice is that whatever i option I use for a search - "exact" or not "exact" . . . it is carried over to the next individual I do a FS search for.
And if I change it on that second search and go back to the still active browser window of the first search and do a refresh - the search changes to the option choosen for the second search.
Therefore keeping a number of search windows open at the same time with mixed selective use of "exact" or not could become confusing.
It would be better if the selection of "exact" stays with any particular search that continues to be open - and only changes by a positive selection in that browser window. So that some window sessions could be using "exact" and some not - and not being changed by a screen refresh using the last selection made by me.0 -

I will make sure the UI developers see this post.0
