Phill Dunn said: May I strongly recommend as part of FamilySearch's Digital Library Collection--an approach be made to the Chicago's Newberry Library. They hold one of the largest and finest collections of published (old and new) family histories and many other family history publications in the country! Tom Huber said: Phil, if you know that administrator of the Newberry, talk to them and see if they have considered having their collection digitized for preservation purposes. Then if they are interested, have them go to https://www.familysearch.org/records/... and fill out the form under the Find a representative button.

FamilySearch currently has (or had -- they may have been recalled due to the pandemic) 300 crews in the field.

Negotiations often take the most effort and given that the Newberry is a privately owned library, they may not want to share their collection with a free site like FamilySearch.

Also keep in mind that copyright laws apply to making the collection available online (or copies of the various works, as far as that goes).

Since Illinois has a stay-at-home order, the Newberry is presently closed until at least April 30.

indicates that Newberry is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, so there is already some relationship between Newberry and FamilySearch

I think the big thing is to ask them... If there are already negotiations going on, it would be better to go to them and ask if they had thought of using some means to preserve their collection, such as FamilySearch of Ancestry.

That approach has yielded some good results from the state archives in Idaho (Boise) and Oregon (Salem).
