Notifications - red dot problem

Paul said: Just as I thought the problem with the red dot constantly appearing against Messages had been resolved, I am now getting the same problem with Notifications (Bell symbol). Again, even if there are no new notifications, the red dot keeps reappearing. I just clicked on Show All Notifications and the red dot returned almost immediately.

I believe similar problems have been reported previously, but please can this erratic and annoying behaviour be fixed?
