Justin Masters said: I performed a merge tonight (er, early this morning) and I see the following in a pairing of "spouses", but with no ability to remove the one person from a relationship with the other, without first creating a marriage.

How come I don't see a little box with a pencil in there to remove the one person from being related to another?

Although you haven't updated us it appears the problem disappeared or you were able to find a workaround. (Just checked the ID illustrated.)

I had this happen a couple of weeks ago, but forget how I got around it - maybe it is just an intermittent issue, or disappears if you leave the page and return. Interested to see any other explanations.

Didn't touch the "spousal" relationship at all.

Randy Ynchausti said: Justin, the couple in the image of your original post is a result of having a parent-child relationship between those two parents and at least one of their children. The system correctly shows that there is no couple relationship information for them by providing the "Add Couple Relationship" option. To get rid of this, which the change history shows you did, you must delete the relationship between these parents and their child or children. Good job!

I understand what you're saying that the child was the "glue" that held that "relationship" together (aaaah, togetherness!), but for me it's puzzling in that I could have sworn I've done that type of operation (merging parents) before many times and don't recall the lack of an edit for a relationship (presumed or actual).

Maybe it's working correctly now? It's a level of abstraction that will probably trip up others as it has me.

Adrian Bruce said: So far as I understand it, the default is that a couple-relationship is created. That couple-relationship has the pencil marker to be clicked to add a specific (usually, marriage) event, etc., or to give access to deleting the couple-relationship.

My impression is that your case - with the "Add Couple Relationship" "button" - can only be reached if someone actually deletes the default couple-relationship, as they might do if the relationship was very short term. Although it might also be possible to set that case up by just adding one parent at a time to a child, I don't know - never tried it. So that probably explains why you've never seen it before - the default method of constructing families doesn't take you that way.

Consider the "Add Couple Relationship" "button" to be the equivalent of the pencil marker but from a different point in time or a different direction in logic.
