Ray Batig said: Hi,

I have relatives buried at this cemetery, however, the Standardized location spelling is wrong and need to be corrected.

Current Standardized location: Saint Adelbert Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States

Correct spelling: Saint Adalbert Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States

The error is in the spelling of Adalbert which has been incorrectly spelled as Adelbert.

Hopefully someone in the support can fix this error.

Juli said: Google Maps has it as Adelbert, but the local historic association and the Catholic parish both have it as Adalbert. (Both spellings are historically valid for the saint, but the -a- is much more common.) I went ahead and made Adalbert the "full name" and Adelbert a "variant name".

    'Ah' ...

Like 'Gordon', you are also one of those who volunteers in the "Research/Places" being the "Place Names" Database (Standards Team) ...

    Good to know ...

Thank you very much. Not sure where Google gets its names from but the Official PA death certificate uses the 'a' as well.

I appreciate you correcting this issue!

It would be interesting to know if the death certificates for the area have been microfilmed and if you were to take 100 random ones for people buried in that cemetery how many would have the Adalbert spelling and how many the Adelbert spelling.

No matter what your 2nd grade teacher taught you, up through history a lot of people were just not all that concerned about "correct" spelling.
