Wow
This must be a MAJOR Release / Update
Saturday, 14 March 2020 @ 11:00 am [my locale Time] (UTC+0-11:00)
60 Hours
(Possible) Inconvenience (Apologies)
Improvements

Wouldn't it have been nice to be told IN ADVANCE what MAJOR / IMPORTANT "Changes" would ensue!?

Of course, no need to include 'behind the scenes' "Changes" that, we do not see; and, do not directly affect us!

Communication is 'a two way street'.

We give 'Feedback'.

Unfortunately, advance advice/information to us is not (generally) forthcoming.

We sometimes get advice/information after the 'Event', which means we [ie. most of the 'Consultants' who are NOT regular participants in the Forum; and/or, are not aware of; or, do not use, the "Beta" ("Test") Environment] must 'scramble' to, 'digest'; and, 'learn', what is NEW in a Release/Update; before, we are able to assist other Users/Patrons.

A van Helsdingen said: It has been suggested on the WikiTree G2G forum that this is related to US Federal censuses being, apparently by mistake (i.e. not due to a contract with the record custodian), restricted to FHCs and Affiliate Libraries. People have contacted FS about this, and FS say they are seeking to restore unrestricted access as soon as possible.

I personally think it is highly unlikely that they need 60 hours to do a routine change of access restrictions to record sets.

    Interesting ...

This is NEW, a SECOND "Banner", appearing below the first, 'suddenly' appearing during the 'process' of the Release/Update ...

Perhaps the "WikiTree G2G Forum" (please excuse my ignorance, whatever that is) is 'on the right track' ...

Gordon Collett said: Could be something major, such as the new merge routine. Or something minor like fixing some image access problems that requires a complete re-writing of several databases having billions of records.

John Huff said: The banner stating that "Some features may be unavailable as we make improvements to the site..." has been removed. A second more descriptive banner that says "Historical Records Notice: Some images of U.S. Federal Census records are currently unavailable on FamilySearch.org. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to restore access to these images as quickly as possible." is now shown on search results pages as well as historical record details pages. This second banner will persist until we have resolved the image access problems for the US Censuses. Hopefully that clears up any confusion the first banner may have caused.

    G'day
Just got up, a little earlier than usual.
    'Thank You' for that.
    Sorry for my ignorance.
    I do not use "WikiTree".

'G'day' (and, 'Good Morning') from "Down Under" (ie. Australia, in my case).

'Thank You' so much for joining in on this post of mine.

And, 'Thank You' so much for that advice.

Such SIMPLE advice BEFORE such Releases/Updates would 'muchly' appreciated ...

And, ALSO in such "Banners" ...

That certainly puts things into perspective.

Although I am from "Down Under", I do have Ancestors and Extended Family form the "Americas".

But, of course, I have not been having the same problems/issues as my "American" 'Cousins' ...

There have been MANY post in this "FamilySearch" ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum; but, even many MORE in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, on the matter of the US Census'.

    Again, 'Thank You'.
