the image is for the collection as a whole and NOT for any one individual which requires another different but similar form which i need to fill out the actual details taken from familsearch for each person such as .

name: Richard Dent
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 01 Mar 1868
baptism/christening place: SAINT GEORGE,KENDAL,WESTMORLAND,ENGLAND
father's name: James Dent
mother's name: Sarah
indexing project (batch) number: C03221-1
system origin: England-ODM
source film number: 97383
reference number:
Citing this Record

"England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1... : accessed 16 Oct 2012), Richard Dent, 01 Mar 1868; citing reference , FHL microfilm 97383.

i have no problem on how to fill out the form for the bit above but i do for the image

which is the form i would link to for all those person from my tree that i have found records for on familysearch.

in this case it would be for all records from the "England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," on famimlysearch not just for the one above.

a new page form of the type in the image would be created with each collection i use e.g "England, Marriages, 1538–1973 ," and "England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991," would both receive a separate form each.

i have also created a text version of the image to help who ever answers my question

thankyou in advance

But the image you show would be correct or rather what i should include when completing the form for an individual record from the COLLECTION for a single person in my tree.

my request was in fact what i should put on the form i provided the image for which is for any entire collection from familysearch be it for,"England, Births and Christenings, 1638-1976," , "England, Marriages, 1538–1973 ," or "England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991," ecetra each of these would receive a separate form each.

ancestry has a 3 tired system
1st form, you need to create a repository in this case for family search (which i have done)

2nd form, you need to enter all the collections currently being USED in the tree from familysearch

3rd form, you need to fill in the details of the actual record

(form 3 can only be filled in and linked if form 2 is created and likewise form 2 can only be used and linked if form 1 is created. otherwise form 3 would be ophaned

so your answer is perfect for form 3 but i would like the correct info i should include in form 2 (my image is of form 2).

    so my question still stands

Jade said: The collection "England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975" is not a valid record set at all. It has nothing to do with the actual record source. It was created by FamilySearch for its own internal server indexing reasons, as were many such confusing junk pseudo-compilations called "Collections." The Repository is FamilySearch.org. The Source title is the Bishop's Transcripts one. Your specific detail for the person would be volume/page if available, then name of the subject the person with date. The URL on the citation detail page should be for the image if available; if not, then for the FamilySearch.org extract if that's the best you can find.

    to date there are

    1303 Historical Record Collections

each collection of course has a number of septate records

    for instance

Alabama, Births and Christenings, 1881-1930 has 6,841 separate records events

if i was to use 5 of the records from the above record for 5 people in my tree i would need to use the 3rd form i mention above where i would drill down to the actual place the event took place and use the info along the lines of the image you provided for each one

those 5 records would of course be left floating around with out any connection to each other and that is where form 2 comes in

in order to show that those 5 record events all come from the same collection here on family search i would need to have them all attached to the source 'form 2' (my image)

now say i have taken 5 records from another collection

Alabama, Civil War Service Records of Union Soldiers, 1861-1865 has 31,582 separate records events

this would mean i now have 10 pages of record on 10 form 3 each with full details

but i also now have two form 2 which show which two collections the 10 records come from here on family search

as they both collections are found on family search i would have to have them attach to form 1 which shows that i am using familysearch as a repository

so for each one of the

    1303 Historical Record Collections

that i use i need to create a page on form 2 and attach it to form 1 and for each record event i use from a collection would need to be attached to the appropriate form 2

so yes jade in this case The collection "England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975" IS a valid record set for the purpose of making a valid entry on form 2 which is needed to link to my form 1 which is the 'parent' The Repository for FamilySearch.org.

form 1:- The Repository is FamilySearch.org. = the parent
form 2:- 1303 Historical Record Collections = its children (my image)
form 3:- record events = the grand children (where the details from your image lives)

so my request still needs to be answered correctly

Jade said: Many of the so-called "Collections" are compilations on the website for the convenience of indexing. They are not 'real' publications.

But I was mistaken in my earlier outline. The repository is the Family History Library. The publisher is FamilySearch.org on its website, citing the microfilm number. The publication is the Bishop's Transcripts (the microfilm with images). The citation detail is date of record where the volume:page is not available (not given in the Library Catalog entry or the automated citation to the record). Give the website address of the extract and date you accessed it.
