There are more things I think should change with the merge page, but I will keep it simple.
You should keep the relationship terminology compared to the person who is being merged. Currently, when it says children on the merge page, it means either the person's children or the person's parents' children (which includes the person!!, so the person is included in the family).
This should change.
When it says children in the merge page, it should be the children of the person. You should change the terminology to say sibling when it refers to the person's siblings. And then, remove the person from that list since the person is not a sibling of himself.
You should also change the order of the list starting parent-sibling relationships, and then spousal-children relationships. In a family tree parents are more towards the top than spouses and children all the way at the bottom, so that is where I get the idea to have parents and siblings first, and then spouses and children next.
The image shows what I mean about this.
The image is of one side of a merge page and what it should look like after the suggestions I made in this post. The image does not show the other person in the merge.
