The new little icons at the top right are not intuitive to most patrons. There should be a pop up when you hover to tell them where they are going when they click on the symbol.

Tom Huber said: Those (largely international) icons are intuitive for mobile users. The problem is that FamilySearch is attempting to make the web browser version appear similar to the mobile versions.

That is a mistake, in my opinion, since most of us use a large monitor which has plenty of space to display words instead of icons.

Kathryn Grant said: I agree wholeheartedly. I seem to recall reading that FamilySearch was using "responsive design"—i.e., an approach where the interface adapts to the width of the screen to present the best experience for the user.

But too often (on quite a few sites, not just on FamilySearch) I see layouts that are clearly just a big version of a mobile screen. They're awkward and difficult to use.
